2. The Evolution of Lingerie from the 5th to the 15th Century

From the 5th century AD to the 15th century, known as the Middle Ages, people had a lot of new ideas and a lot of things happened. Fashion and clothing are two things that also changed a lot during this period. Underwear has always changed over time. New materials, styles and methods are used to manufacture underwear for men and women. In the early Middle Ages, underwear was not fashionable and practical. Men used to wear trousers, the so-called Chausses. These trousers are made of wool or linen and cover the leg from the waist to the ankle. Ladies used to wear a long loose frock under their usual clothes. It is made of a fabric called linen or cotton. This garment keeps them comfortable and also acts as a base layer for other garments.

In the Middle Ages, people began to make underwear more beautiful and more attentive. Over time, women’s clothing also changed, with shirts becoming skirts. The new dress is tighter at the top and wider at the bottom. This design defines the shape of the body and helps support the breasts. At the time, the use of new fabrics such as silk and velvet was changing the look of underwear. Wealthy women began to wear corsets made of expensive and fine fabrics. These bodice are often decorated with beautiful patterns or precious stones. A corset slims the waist and keeps the breasts in shape by providing extra support. Long ago, bras began to be crafted as a new type of underwear. We don’t know the exact origin of bras, but they are thought to have been made around 600 years ago. The first bras were probably simple and purely functional, consisting of a piece of fabric that wrapped around the chest and fastened at the back.

In the 15th century, men and women wore underwear every day. Underwear is designed to keep people comfortable and shape their body. It can also help fashion clothes look more beautiful. Taken together, the way underwear changed in the Middle Ages shows how people’s perceptions of clothing and style changed over time. Underwear, that is, women’s underwear, has changed over time. What started out as simple and functional lingerie, now comes with more chic lingerie that gives a certain look to the body. These changes are due to social and cultural changes. Today we have many different types of underwear inspired by the way people in the Middle Ages designed their underwear. Some lingerie is simple and comfortable, while others are chic and luxurious.
